Bà đến năn nỉ, xin đi xin lại nhiều lần, đến độ các môn đệ cảm thấy khó chịu phải thốt lên: “Xin Thầy bảo bà ấy về đi, vì bà ấy cứ theo sau chúng ta mà kêu mãi!” Điều mà bà ta van xin Chúa lại là một điều hết sức hợp tình hợp lý, vì con gái bà đang bị quỷ ám. Vậy mà Chúa Giê-su tỉnh bơ không đáp lại một lời, lại còn tỏ ra lạnh lùng, hững hờ và thậm chí có một chút gì đó rất tàn nhẫn khi nói với bà ta rằng: “Không nên lấy bánh dành cho con cái mà ném cho lũ chó con” (Mt 15:26). Tại sao vậy?

What runs through your mind while reading today’s Gospel? Personally, I feel so sorry for the Canaanite woman! What is clear is that the woman was not going to give up, but kept pleading and begging to the point that the disciples felt uncomfortable that they called out: “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us!” What she begged for was relevant, since her daughter is severely demon-possessed. However, Jesus remains silent; he did not say a word in answer to her, he seems put off, in an apparently callous manner, and even a little heartless when he told her: “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs”(Mt 15:26). Why did Jesus treat this pagan woman as such?
