Bạn có biết tại sao người nhận một yến bạc lại hoàn lại cho ông nguyên vẹn số bạc, không bị sứt mẻ gì không? Là bởi vì anh ta sợ: “Thưa ông chủ, tôi biết ông là người hà khắc, gặt chỗ không gieo, thu nơi không vãi. Vì thế, tôi đâm sợ, mới đem chôn giấu yến bạc của ông dưới đất” (Mt 25:24-25). Anh ta sợ lỡ đem số bạc ấy đi làm ăn, đầu tư, chơi stock, lỡ bị thua lỗ thì lấy gì mà hoàn trả lại cho chủ! Vì thế cho nên đem số bạc ấy đi chôn xuống đất là an toàn nhất. Thế nhưng anh ta đã lầm! Sự sợ hãi đã đẩy anh ta vào một hoàn cảnh đau khổ và khốn cùng, anh ta đã bị quăng ra chỗ tối tăm bên ngoài: ở đó, [anh ta] phải khóc lóc nghiến răng (Mt 25:30).

Bạn thân mến, cũng như anh đầy tớ vô dụng, lười biếng và tồi tệ trong dụ ngôn Những Nén Bạc, có không ít lần, vì sợ cho nên tôi đã đem chôn dấu những yến bạc của Thiên Chúa trao cho tôi quản lý, tôi đã không làm cho nó sinh lợi bởi vì…

Have you ever wondered why the person who received one silver/talent would return the one silver/talent without a scratch, unmarked? It’s simply because of fear: “Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground” (Mt 25:24-25). He is greatly concerned that if he puts the money into the business, invests in stocks, and if it crashes, how can he return the money to his owner? Therefore, it is safest to bury the silver/talent in the ground. But he was wrong! His fear drove him to such a state of anguish and misery; he was thrown into the darkness outside, where there [he] will be wailing and grinding of teeth'” (Mt 25:30).
