Khi biết, hay nghe, hoặc thấy những gương mù, gương xấu, những vụ xì căng đan, ví dụ như giám mục A bao che cho những linh mục phạm tội xâm phạm tính dục, ngược đãi trẻ vị thành niên, cha B thâm thủng tiền bạc của giáo xứ bị bắt đi tù, cha C cởi áo dòng lấy vợ…thì có một số người Công Giáo thường rơi vào hai thái độ tiêu cực sau:
- Cảm thấy buồn bã, chán nản, thất vọng vào hàng Giáo Phẩm và Giáo Sĩ, họ nghi nan, họ bỏ lễ, không thèm lãnh nhận các bí tích, và không đóng góp tài chánh cho Giáo Xứ nữa.
- Giận dữ, bực tức, biểu tình, viết báo, gửi email, gửi thư nặc danh để lăng mạ, hạ nhục, bôi nhọ, phản đối một cách kịch liệt…Sau đó họ lìa bỏ Giáo Hội qua các Giáo Phái Tin Lành, hoặc tệ hơn nữa bỏ đạo luôn.
Tại sao người ta lại hành xử một cách tiêu cực như vậy chỉ vì những chuyện lôi thôi, bê bối và vì những gương mù gương xấu của một số Giám Mục, và Linh Mục? Tôi nghĩ rất có thể là bởi vì hai nguyên nhân này…
Perhaps you have heard about scandals or seen some bad examples by some members of the Catholic clergy. For instance, Bishop A covered up for the priests who have sexually abused children; Father B has been arrested and taken into custody on money laundering charges; Father C left the priesthood for some woman…Unfortunately, some Catholics usually react by falling into one of these two negative attitudes:
- They feel sad, discouraged, and frustrated with the priests and religious men/women. Their faith is shaken, and at-risk, they stop going to Holy Mass, refuse to receive the Sacraments, stop giving their time and contribution to the Church.
- They are indignant, enraged, protest, publish articles, send anonymous emails, letter to insult, humiliate, slander and violently oppose the situation…After that, they abandon Mother Church and join a Protestant/Baptist church; even worse, they renounce religion for good.
Why did people choose such destructive approaches simply because of disruptions, cases of unrest, scandals, and bad examples of the Bishops and Priests? I think, probably for these two reasons…
